Introduction
Kaibigan Ermita Outreach Foundation, Inc. (aka Kaibigan) has been committed to children’s rights, providing opportunities and protecting children from all forms of abuse in underserved areas of Manila, Philippines for more than 30 years. This work includes providing direct educational support; training for children, parents and female leaders; community engagement; and advocacy. These activities are undertaken in close collaboration with local governments and other institutions.
Kaibigan transforms the lives of thousands of families by empowering communities to plan and act together to combat poverty. Kaibigan expands its reach each year by forming additional working partnerships with local district governments (called barangays) and facilitating the establishment of independent volunteer-run community-based organizations (called People’s Organizations). This is central to Kaibigan’s work. Currently, 16 barangay partnerships and five People’s Organizations are providing essential services to marginalized communities in the form of health, education, livelihood support and community building.
